Teaming up with Adobe and the Open Screen Project

At Google, we've been working closely with the folks at Adobe for years. Some of our most exciting projects such as YouTube, Android, <a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/adobe-users-get-help-with-google-site.html">Google Site Search</a>, Google Chrome and even <a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/google-learns-to-crawl-flash.html">Google web search</a> require close integration with Adobe's technologies. Our engineering teams regularly exchange ideas, tips and bugs as we build upon each others' efforts.<br /><br />Along these lines, we're excited to be <a href="http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200910/100509AFPforMobileDevicesandPCs.html">joining</a> Adobe's <a href="http://www.openscreenproject.org/">Open Screen Project</a>, an initiative established a year and a half ago to help developers more easily design content for the web across multiple screens using the Flash Platform. We've always believed that open platforms lead to greater innovation on the web and we see participating in the Open Screen Project as another step in that direction. Surf's up Wednesday: Google Wave update

Starting Wednesday, September 30 we'll be sending out more than 100,000 invitations to preview Google Wave to:<br /><ul><li>Developers who have been active in the <a href="http://code.google.com/apis/wave/">developer preview</a> we started back in June</li><li>The first users who signed up and offered to give feedback on <a href="http://wave.google.com/">wave.google.com</a></li><li>Select business and university customers of <a href="http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html#utm_campaign=wave-ext-pre&utm_source=en-na-us-googleblog-wave-ext-pre&utm_medium=blog">Google Apps</a></li></ul>We'll ask some of these early users to nominate people they know also to receive early invitations — Google Wave is a lot more useful if your friends, family and colleagues have it too. This, of course, will just be the beginning. If all goes well we will soon be inviting many more to try out Google Wave.<br /><br />Some of you have asked what we mean by preview. This just means that Google Wave isn't quite ready for prime time. Not yet, anyway. Since <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_UyVmITiYQ">first unveiling</a> the project back in May, we've focused almost exclusively on scalability, stability, speed and usability. Yet, you will still experience the occasional downtime, a crash every now and then, part of the system being a bit sluggish and some of the user interface being, well, quirky.<br /><br />There are also still key features of Google Wave that we have yet to fully implement. For example, you can't yet remove a participant from a wave or define groups of users, draft mode is still missing and you can't configure the permissions of users on a wave. We'll be rolling out these and other features as soon as they are ready — over the next few months.<br /><br />Despite all this, we believe you will find that Google Wave has the potential for making you more productive when communicating and collaborating. Even when you're just having fun! We use it ourselves everyday for everything from planning pub crawls to sharing photos, managing release processes and debating features to writing design documents. In fact, we collaborated on this very blog post with several colleagues in Google Wave.<br /><br />Speaking of ways you could potentially use Google Wave, we're intrigued by the many detailed ones people have taken the time to describe. To mention just a few: journalist Andy Ihnatko on <a href="http://www.suntimes.com/business/1606282,ihnatko-google-wave-060309.article">producing his Chicago Sun-Times column</a>, filmmaker Jonathan Poritsky on <a href="http://www.candlerblog.com/2009/06/05/google-wave-for-filmmakers-a-concept/">streamlining the movie-making process</a>, scientist Cameron Neylon on <a href="http://blog.openwetware.org/scienceintheopen/2009/06/08/google-wave-in-research-the-slightly-more-sober-view-part-i-papers/">academic papers</a> and <a href="http://blog.openwetware.org/scienceintheopen/2009/06/08/google-wave-in-research-part-ii-the-lab-record/">lab work</a>, Alexander Dreiling and his SAP research team on <a href="http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/15618%3Fpage%3Dlast%26x-order%3Ddate">collaborative business process modelling</a>, and ZDNet's Dion Hincliffe on a <a href="http://blogs.zdnet.com/Hinchcliffe/?p=400">host of enterprise use cases</a>.<br /><br />The Wave team's most fun day since May? We invited a group of students to come spend a day with us at Google's Sydney office. Among other things, we asked them to collaboratively write stories in Google Wave about an imaginary trip around the world. They had a ball! I scream, you scream, we all scream for iGoogle social!

We launched iGoogle in 2005 as a way for people to quickly and easily personalize their Google experience with all the information on the web that was most useful to them. Now tens of millions of people choose to use their iGoogle homepage to check email, track the news, watch videos, chat with friends and much more. Today, we're pleased to tell you about the new social features that we're introducing to iGoogle.<br /><br />First, we're excited to introduce <a href="http://www.google.com/igsocial">social gadgets for iGoogle</a>. Social gadgets let you share, collaborate and play games with your friends on top of all the things you can already do on your homepage. The 19 social gadgets we're debuting today offer many new ways to make your homepage more useful and fun. To manage your day-to-day more efficiently, check things off alongside your friends with the social <a href="http://www.google.com/ig/directory?hl=en&url=www.labpixies.com%2Fcampaigns%2Ftodo%2Ftodo.xml">To-Do</a> list gadget.<br /><br />Your friends are able to see what you share or do in your social gadgets either by having the same gadgets on their homepages, or through a new feed called Updates. Updates can include your recently shared photo albums, your favorite comics strips, your travel plans for the weekend and more. To help you manage who you are sharing with, we've created a Friends group. You can add and edit friends in this group at any time. If you already have a Friends group within your <a href="http://www.google.com.au/contacts">Google Contacts</a>, you'll be able to easily share with those friends on iGoogle as well. If you don't care to share, iGoogle's social features are optional and can be disabled on a gadget-to-gadget basis with just a few clicks.<br /><br />It's developers who have really made iGoogle into the rich experience it is — growing our gadget directory to over 60,000 gadgets today — and we know iGoogle developers will help us quickly expand our collection of social gadgets. Google Code Jam returns

Are you energized by cracking conundrums? Are you keen to crank out some code? Here at Google, we know the rush of encountering a challenge and rising to meet it, transforming a problem into a solution and a solution into code. Since 2003, we've been sharing that experience with a global community of computer scientists through our annual programming competition, Google Code Jam.<br /><br />Today, we're excited to announce Google Code Jam 2009, powered by Google App Engine. This year, contestants will compete in several 2½-hour online rounds, attacking three to four difficult algorithmic problems during each round. To code up solutions to the problems, they'll use the programming language and tools of their choice; when those solutions are ready, they'll try them against our fiendish test data. One wrong answer out of a hundred, and it's back to the drawing board!<br /><br /><a href="http://code.google.com/codejam">Registration</a> opens today. So visit the Google Code Jam site to register, read the rules and — most importantly — begin to practice by trying out the problems from last year's contest, so you'll be in shape when the qualification round starts on September 2. Went Walkabout. Brought back Google Wave.

Back in early 2004, Google took an interest in a tiny mapping startup called Where 2 Tech, founded by my brother Jens and me. We were excited to join Google and help create what would become <a href="http://maps.google.com/">Google Maps</a>. But we also started thinking about what might come next for us after maps.<br /><br />As always, Jens came up with the answer: communication. He pointed out that two of the most spectacular successes in digital communication, email and instant messaging, were originally designed in the '60s to imitate analog formats — email mimicked snail mail, and IM mimicked phone calls. Since then, so many different forms of communication had been invented — blogs, wikis, collaborative documents, etc. — and computers and networks had dramatically improved. So Jens proposed a new communications model that presumed all these advances as a starting point, and I was immediately sold. (Jens insists it took him hours to convince me, but I like my version better.)<br /><br />We had a blast the next couple years turning Where 2's prototype mapping site into Google Maps. But finally we decided it was time to leave the Maps team and turn Jens' new idea into a project, which we codenamed "Walkabout." We started with a set of tough questions:<br /><ul><li>Why do we have to live with divides between different types of communication — email versus chat, or conversations versus documents?</li><li>Could a single communications model span all or most of the systems in use on the web today, in one smooth continuum? How simple could we make it?</li><li>What if we tried designing a communications system that took advantage of computers' current abilities, rather than imitating non-electronic forms? </li></ul>After months holed up in a conference room in the <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=48+Pirrama+Road+Pyrmont,+NSW+2009&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&split=0&gl=us&ei=Y3EcSsGXO46UswOYme3ZCA&ll=-33.865997,151.195736&spn=0.009229,0.022745&z=16&iwloc=A">Sydney office</a>, our five-person "startup" team emerged with a prototype. And now, after more than two years of expanding our ideas, our team, and technology, we're very eager to return and see what the world might think. Everyone on your wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets, and even feeds from other sources on the web. They can insert a reply or edit the wave directly. It's concurrent rich-text editing, where you see on your screen nearly instantly what your fellow collaborators are typing in your wave. That means Google Wave is just as well suited for quick messages as for persistent content — it allows for both collaboration and communication. You can also use "playback" to rewind the wave and see how it evolved.<br /><br />As with <a href="http://code.google.com/android/">Android</a>, <a href="http://code.google.com/chromium/">Google Chrome</a>, and many other Google efforts, we plan to make the code open source as a way to encourage the developer community to get involved. Google Wave is very open and extensible, and we're inviting developers to add all kinds of cool stuff before our public launch. Google Wave has three layers: the product, the platform, and the protocol:<br /><ul><li>The Google Wave <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">product</span> (available as a developer preview) is the web application people will use to access and edit waves. It's an HTML 5 app, built on <a href="http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/">Google Web Toolkit</a>. It includes a rich text editor and other functions like desktop drag-and-drop (which, for example, lets you drag a set of photos right into a wave). </li><li>Google Wave can also be considered a <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">platform</span> with a rich set of open APIs that allow developers to embed waves in other web services, and to build new extensions that work inside waves.</li><li>The Google Wave <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">protocol</span> is the underlying format for storing and the means of sharing waves, and includes the "live" concurrency control, which allows edits to be reflected instantly across users and services. The protocol is designed for open federation, such that anyone's Wave services can interoperate with each other and with the Google Wave service. To encourage adoption of the protocol, we intend to open source the code behind Google Wave. </li></ul>So, this leaves one big question we need your help answering: What else can we do with this?<br /><br />If you're a developer and you'd like to roll up your sleeves and start working on Google Wave with us, you can read more on the <a href="http://googlewavedev.blogspot.com/2009/05/introducing-google-wave-apis-what-can.html">Google Wave Developer blog</a> about the <a href="http://code.google.com/apis/wave/">Google Wave APIs</a>, and check out the <a href="http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2009/05/hello-world-meet-google-wave.html">Google Code blog</a> to learn more about the <a href="http://www.waveprotocol.org/">Google Wave Federation Protocol</a>. <br /><br />If you'd like to be notified when we launch Google Wave as a public product, you can sign up at <a href="http://wave.google.com/">http://wave.google.com</a>/. We don't have a specific timeframe for public release, but we're planning to continue working on Google Wave for a number of months more as a developer preview. Netlog integrates with Google Friend Connect

When we started building <a href="http://www.google.com/friendconnect/">Friend Connect</a>, we wanted to provide a fully open system — one that lets you join any website and interact with the people there in a meaningful way, regardless of where they come from. To enable this kind of engagement, we used open standards like <a href="http://openid.net/">OpenID</a>, <a href="http://oauth.net/">OAuth</a>, and <a href="http://www.opensocial.org/">OpenSocial</a> as underlying technologies, enabling any other service to plug into Friend Connect.<br /><br />Today, we're excited to share that <a href="http://www.netlog.com/">Netlog</a> has used these open standards to integrate their social networking service with Google Friend Connect. Now, Netlog's more than 45 million users across Europe can:<br /><ul><li>Sign into any of the millions of sites and blogs using Friend Connect with their Netlog credentials</li><li>Use their Netlog profiles on these sites</li><li>See if any of their friends are already members of the same sites and invite other Netlog friends to join</li><li>Share their Friend Connect activities with their friends on Netlog, and</li><li>Send messages back to their Netlog friends</li></ul>Additionally, for sites that are already using Friend Connect, one of the benefits of this standards based model is that they can take advantage of any new service that chooses to join this open ecosystem, like Netlog, without any additional work. New features and an early look at Java for App Engine

Scarcity brings clarity, and many companies are taking important steps to adjust to today's economic climate. At Google, we've started changing the way we build and release products.<br /><br />In the past six months alone we've launched nearly 50 projects and small products on <a href="http://code.google.com/appengine">Google App Engine</a> -- from <a href="http://moderator.appspot.com/">Google Moderator</a> and <a href="http://googleappengine.blogspot.com/2008/10/when-we-find-tools-that-work-well-for.html">Labs for Google Apps</a> to internal-facing tools for both our Ads and Web teams. In all cases we found it quicker, easier, and more cost-effective to leave the infrastructure to App Engine, and the actual product-building to our engineering teams.<br /><br />Running our internal and external apps on App Engine isn't without difficulty, however, and we've learned a lot in the process. Supporting students in open source software development

<a href="http://code.google.com/soc/">Google Summer of Code</a>, our program to introduce students to open source software development, is now in full swing for 2009. Over the past four years, we've paired nearly 2,500 "graduates" with more than 2,500 mentors from industry to academia, with some spectacular results: millions of lines of source code produced and over $15M in funding provided to open source development. This year student participants have more than <a href="http://socghop.appspot.com/program/accepted_orgs/google/gsoc2009">150 open source software and technology–related projects</a> to choose from when submitting their applications, from operating systems to content management systems.<br /><br />During the <a href="http://code.google.com/soc/2008/">2008 program</a>, we had more than 975 students successfully complete their projects. Each participant received a $4,500 stipend and an ultra-awesome t-shirt to go along with their newly honed programming skills. We're particularly excited by the social ties our students form through the course of the program, as well. We've connected people in more than 98 countries, and hope to bring people from even more places into the Google Summer of Code community this year.<br /><br />We'll be accepting student applications through April 3, 2009 at 12:00 pm PST. Google Friend Connect: now available

We're pleased to share that Google Friend Connect is now available in beta to any webmaster looking to add a "dash of social" to his or her site. This service lets webmasters add social features to their sites by simply copying and pasting a few snippets of code — no advanced coding or technical background required. <br /><br />We know that people want to be social on the web, and Friend Connect makes it easy for anyone to sign in to a website, share a little bit about themselves through a personal profile, discover other people with similar interests, invite their contacts, and interact with friends. Even better, you don't have to deal with the hassle of creating yet another username and password — Friend Connect lets you log in using an existing account from Google, Yahoo, AOL, or OpenID. Similarly, you can choose to either establish a new profile or use profiles and friend sources from other social networks that have opened up their services, like Plaxo and orkut. It's Jam time

Today we hosted the <a href="http://code.google.com/codejam/">Google Code Jam</a> finals, inviting 100 of the world's top programmers to flex their brains in a grand coding showdown. This is our <a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/google-code-jam-is-back.html">fifth annual</a> Global Code Jam competition, and thanks to a new platform created by a 20%-time team that includes previous Code Jam winners, more than 11,000 contestants tackled complex algorithmic challenges, programming in the language of their choice. After a series of online rounds in July and August, the top 500 semi-finalists competed in regional semifinals at 15 offices across Europe, Asia and the Americas to determine the final 100.<br /><br />We're pleased to announce that after three hours of furious typing, debugging and problem-solving at the onsite finals in Mountain View. this afternoon, Tiancheng Lou of China took home the $10,000 Grand Prize. Zeyuan Zhu from China won second place, Bruce Merry from the UK came in third, and cash prizes went to the other finalists. Overall, the 100 finalists represented 23 different countries.<br /><br />Congratulations to all the Code Jammers. We hope to see you at the next Jam. Visualizing data in the cloud

More and more companies are storing data in the cloud, and as this data grows, so does the need for reporting tools to make sense of this information. To address these growing needs, earlier this year we introduced the <a href="http://google-code-updates.blogspot.com/2008/03/introducing-google-visualization-api.html">Google Visualization API</a><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);font-family:Verdana;" ></span>, a powerful API that enables anyone to <a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/03/opening-google-docs-to-users-and.html">build apps on top of Google Spreadsheets</a>. Companies can create and use reporting applications from the <a href="http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gadgetgallery.html">Google Visualization Gadget Gallery</a> that can be integrated anywhere on the web, displaying data from a Google Spreadsheet. Today, we are expanding the capabilities of the Google Visualization API by enabling developers to display data from any data source connected to the web (any database, Excel spreadsheet, etc.), not just from Google Spreadsheets. From pivot tables and heat graphs to motion charts and timelines, the Google Visualization Gallery holds a growing set of 40+ visualizations that appeal to a multitude of businesses.<br /><br />We're also pleased to announce that <a href="http://www.salesforce.com/">Salesforce.com</a> has made available some <a href="http://blog.sforce.com/sforce/2008/11/elevate-your-fo.html">tools</a> to make the Google Visualization API even easier to use. These tools enable their customers to build sophisticated reporting and analysis applications using the API that works with data inside Salesforce.com's CRM. The Visualization API also enables developers to create custom reporting applications to sell to Salesforce customers or to other companies with data in the cloud. Earlier today at the <a href="http://www.salesforce.com/dreamforce/DF08/">Dreamforce</a> conference, Adam Gross, Vice President, Developer Marketing, Salesforce.com, commented that "The enhancement of the Google Visualization API represents a significant opportunity for developers. We expect to see the creation of new tools for our users to quickly generate reports and dashboards for their Salesforce CRM data and in their Force.com applications. Introducing the winners of the Android Developer Challenge I

Less than a year ago, we <a title="announced" href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/11/calling-all-developers-10m-android.html" id="e418">announced</a> the Android Developer Challenge, a two-part contest for developers to design engaging, innovative mobile applications for Android to<span style="display: block;" id="formatbar_Buttons"><span class="on" style="display: block;" id="formatbar_CreateLink" title="Link" onmouseover="ButtonHoverOn(this);" onmouseout="ButtonHoverOff(this);" onmouseup="" onmousedown="CheckFormatting(event);FormatbarButton('richeditorframe', this, 8);ButtonMouseDown(this);"></span></span> the tune of $10 million total in awards. Since the kickoff of the first part of the contest (ADC I) last November, we've been eagerly waiting to see what these brilliant minds would come up with. The first round of ADC I closed earlier this year, awarding the top 50 entrants with $25,000 each. Today marks the closing of the second and final round of ADC I, in which 10 winners will receive $275,000 and 10 semi-finalists will be awarded $100,000. Protocol Buffers: Our open source data interchange format

We call it "Protocol Buffers." It's the way we encode almost any sort of structured information which needs to be passed across the network or stored on disk. We thought Protocol Buffers might be useful to other people, too, so we've decided to release it as open source software. Wrapup: Google Developer Days and Google I/O

Not only is it the start of summer in the Bay Area, but also the start of Google I/O and Google Developer Days around the world. Many of the team dispersed to various parts of the globe to meet with developers. Here's a quick recap of where we've been, and where we're heading.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">San Francisco, May 28-29</span><br />We started the summer with <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday/GoogleIO200802#" id="owhq" title="Google I/O on May 28-29th">Google I/O</a>. This two-day conference was our biggest developer gathering to date. While we'd love for every single software developer to come to these events, we realize that isn't possible. So we've recorded as many of the sessions as we could and made them available online. We've posted videos and presentations <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/io/" id="pow1" title="more than 70 of the sessions">more than 70 sessions</a> for you to view.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Yokohama, June 10</span><br />Shortly after Google I/O, we kicked off our 2008 Google Developer Days. The first stop was <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayJapan#" id="c6l:" title="Yokohama, Japan">Yokohama, Japan</a>. Andy Rubin and Takuya Oikawa started the day before 1100 developers, highlighting the Android user interface, the Earth API's 3D graphics, and announcing Japan's new Google Developer API Expert program. <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/developerdayjapan/" id="d922" title="Videos and sessions are now available.">Videos and sessions are now available.</a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Beijing, June 12</span><br />Two days later, Marissa Mayer and Kai-Fu Lee opened <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayChina#" id="k0hk" title="Developer Day in Beijing, China">Developer Day in Beijing</a> for more than 2,000 developers, highlighting the effort between Google and local developer communities to collectively make the web better as a platform. Notably, we welcomed several new Chinese networks to the OpenSocial community, including 51.com, 51wan.com, Douban.com, Hainei.com, Tianji.com, Xiaonei.com, and YiQi.com. These networks join a few others that have already launched in China, including MySpace.cn and Tianya.cn, as well as CityIN.com, which has shipped a sandbox for developers. <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/developerdaychina/" id="j1a." title="Beijing videos and sessions are here.">Beijing videos and sessions are here.</a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Taipei, June 14</span><br />Next on the schedule was <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayTaiwan#" id="mx0h" title="Taipei's first Google Developer Day">Taipei's first Google Developer Day</a>, with 900 developers. In the developer showcase, we invited three developers to demonstrate web applications they'd built using Google APIs: Wei-chih Chiang, a student of Yi Shou University and his <a href="http://pi.isuphoto.org/photofeet.htm" id="x.:b" title="Photo Note">Photo Note</a> site, Jun-Chieh Huang, founder of <a href="http://www.ischool.com.tw/" id="qp-:" title="iSchool">ischool</a>, a website that integrates Google services for elementary and high schools in Taiwan, and <a href="http://funp.com/" id="mxot" title="FunP">FunP</a>, a social website integrating OpenSocial features. <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/developerdaytaiwan/" id="nk66" title="Here are the Taipei videos and sessions.">Here are the Taipei videos and sessions.</a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sydney, June 18</span><br />Rounding out the Asia-Pacific Developer Days was an intimate group of <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayAustralia#" id="v:jd" title="450 developers in Sydney">450 developers in Sydney</a> right by scenic Darling Harbor. In addition to folks from Google, we were excited to have Daniel Reyes, Head of Engineering from MySpace AU, stop by to share his team's work with Gears. Also of note were six local developers who showcased their app at our <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayAustralia#5214827415724646066" id="dh:g" title="speedgeeking contest">speedgeeking contest</a>: contest winners Casey and Dan Russell of <a id="gmvu" href="http://www.cleancruising.com.au/" title="CleanCruising">CleanCruising</a>, Nick Lothian of <a id="w2.j" href="http://www.scootle.edu.au/" title="Scootle">Scootle</a>, Ken Hoetmer of <a id="afub" href="http://quikmaps.com/" title="Quikmaps">Quikmaps</a>, Tom Horn of the <a id="v:ho" href="http://cannonade.net/aubrey.html" title="Patrick O'Brien Mapping Project">Patrick O'Brien Mapping Project</a>, Tak Tran with the <a id="gqtu" href="http://www.matthuynh.com/cabtour/cabtour.php" title="Collaborative Autobiography">Collaborative Autobiography</a> site, and Tim Savage with the <a id="vihi" href="http://www.google.com/ig/directory?url=hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/104881640610994779021/seqwater.xml" title="SEQ Brisbane Water Levels gadget">SEQ Brisbane Water Levels gadget</a>.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Mexico City, June 23 </span><br />John Farrell and Alfonso Luna opened <span id="w_k1" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">our </span><a title="first Developer Day in Mexico City" href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayMexico#" id="n3z6">first Developer Day in Mexico City</a>. 500 enthusiastic developers joined us from all over Central and South America, with a crowd of them gathering as early as 6am, well ahead of the 9am start time. Check out <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/developerdaymexico/" id="imgi" title="sessions">sessions.</a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Sao Paulo, June 27</span><br />Alexandre Hohagen and Paulo Golgher welcomed 750 developers to <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/developerday2008/DeveloperDayBrazil02#" id="isrj" title="Google Developer Day in Sao Paulo">Developer Day in Sao Paulo</a>, the largest event in Google Brazil's history. The crowd was especially excited to hear Eduardo Thuler's announcement of orkut's upcoming support of OpenSocial in Brazil.<br /><br />Our Developer Days don't stop there, though. Sessions and snacks at Google I/O

<span class="byline-author">Posted by Andrew Bowers, Product Manager</span><br /><br />We hosted <a href="http://code.google.com/events/io" id="gsjp" title="Google I/O">Google I/O</a> at the Moscone Center in San Francisco this week, with 3,000+ developers in attendance. They took advantage of nearly <a id="bmd1" href="http://code.google.com/events/io/sessions.html" title="100 in-depth technical sessions">100 in-depth technical sessions</a>, on-site massage therapists, and 3,500 pounds of assorted snacks (including 395 pounds of M&Ms and 190 pounds of Gummi Bears).<br /><br />While we can't embed snacks or massages directly into this browser -- we're hoping the <a id="o3lr" href="http://code.google.com/apis/gears" title="Gears">Gears</a> team will make this possible next year -- presentations will be posted to <a id="fab0" href="http://code.google.com/" title="Google Code">Google Code</a> shortly.
